Source and Methodology
2028 Presidential Tracker Source and Methodology
How MyTimeToVote turns Federal Election Commission OpenFEC records into the presidential candidate tracker, and what the data does and does not mean.
What This Is
Tracker Scope
This tracker is a MyTimeToVote reference page for 2028 presidential candidate filings reported through the Federal Election Commission. It summarizes candidate records, party affiliations, filing dates, principal committees, candidate-level financial totals, and selected itemized receipt summaries where available.
Primary Source
Federal Election Commission OpenFEC
The tracker uses the FEC OpenFEC API as its primary data source. The public pages link back to official FEC candidate records so readers can compare the tracker view with the source record.
- Candidate records
- OpenFEC candidate search for presidential filings.
- Financial totals
- OpenFEC candidate totals for receipts, disbursements, cash on hand, debt, and coverage dates.
- Top sponsors
- OpenFEC Schedule A itemized receipts for available principal committee data.
Update Cadence
Snapshot Timing
The FEC API is updated nightly. This tracker is designed to refresh daily after that overnight update window when data is available, then rebuild the static pages from the latest validated JSON snapshot.

- Generated from data

Limitations
What The Data Does Not Mean
- An FEC presidential filing is not the same as ballot access in any state.
- Candidate filing records do not imply endorsement, polling support, campaign viability, or election results.
- Financial totals reflect available FEC records at snapshot time and may lag newer filings or amendments.
- Zero or missing values mean the value was not reported or not captured in the snapshot; they should not be read as a final factual claim without checking the FEC source record.
Top Sponsors
Itemized Receipt Summaries
Top sponsor rows are capped at 10 rows per candidate. In this snapshot, 21 candidates were checked and 17 had sponsor rows.
Missing sponsor rows mean no top sponsor rows were captured for that candidate in this snapshot, not necessarily that the campaign had no contributors.
