Party Nomination
Political Party Nomination
A presidential candidate nominated by a qualified political party may be placed on the general election ballot. Each eligible political party must submit certificates of nomination for electors of President and Vice-President together with the name of the candidates for President and Vice-President to the State Election Commissione r. If a party holds a national nominating convention, the certificate must be filed by the earlier of the Tuesday following the convention, or September 15th. A political party is a political organization which nominates candidates for presidential electors, or nominates candidates f or offices do be decided at the general election. A political party is eligible for general election ballot access if 21 days prior to the primary election the number of registered voters in the name of the party is equal to at least 1 0/100 of 1% of the total number of voters registered in the state as of December 31st of the year immediately preceding the general election.
Petition Access
Petition / Independent Candidate Access
An unaffiliated presidential candidate may obtain ballot access for the general election by filing with the state election co mmissioner no later than September 1st a sworn declaration of non -affiliation and a nominating petition signed by at least 1% of the total number of registered voters as of December 31st of the year immediately preceding the general election.
Write-In
Write-In Rules
A write-in candidate for president must file a write-in candidate declaration with the state election commissioner no later than September 20th.
